Aśvagandha, also known as Indian ginseng, literally means “smell or essence of a horse”, and it evokes the strength of this animal. This adaptogenic plant is traditionally considered in Āyurveda one of the best rejuvenating plants; nourishing all tissues, giving vitality and strengthening the body physically and mentally. It is also a tranquilizer and, as its name suggests (“somnifera”), it has also been used as an aid in the treatment of insomnia.
